RESEARCH - Visible Difference

Researchers from the Centre for Appearance Research at UWE Bristol are running an online research survey for UK-based adults (18+) who have a visible difference, for example due to #alopecia.

The study is concerned with how much looks affect the way people live.

It takes about 20 minutes, and participants can enter a draw for one of ten, £10 Amazon vouchers.

Charitable Bookings

DFFB has recently signed up to Charitable Bookings and, for those of you who enjoy eating out, if you make your reservations through Charitable Bookings, £1 per person goes to the Charity of your choice.

At the same time, IF you have a favourite Restaurant and find it's not listed, if you let Charitable Bookings know they will approach the Restaurant to see if they would be willing to participate.

Dan's Fund for Burns :: About us :: Aims & Mission

Mission Aim

The prime aim of Danís Fund for Burns is to be a ready source of assistance by providing swift and practical support for UK-wide Burn Survivors in need.

 

How can we help?

In various ways including but not restricted to:

 

  • Help and guidance - where to find the right practical support;
  • Financial assistance to cover emergencies such as accommodation and transportation costs to and from Hospital for families, emergency supplies whilst in Hospital, including items and clothing lost in fires, and other accidents causing burn injuries;
  • Transportation costs to and from Outpatient clinics;
  • Interim emergency funding while waiting Benefits or Insurance claims and more;
  • iPads for both therapy and relief of boredom if hospitalised for extended periods;
  • Physiotherapy, massage, rehabilitation gym/physio equipment, other essential equipment;
  • Job retraining, providing specialist equipment such as specially adapted computers, etc;
  • Work with existing Hospital Burns Support Groups for survivors and their families, including counselling as well as assisting in the establishment of new Burns Support Group and Befriending opportunities for UK-wide Burn Survivors – further study to expand these services where possible;
  • Funding Young Adult (18 to 25 year old burn survivors) weekends, with accompanying staff, where they meet other similar burn survivors and find support and comfort as well as share experiences with others who actually know what they have been through;
  • Helping Burns Units purchase vital equipment for the treatment of burn survivors that the NHS is unable to provide, eg computerized beds (a necessity for those with burnt backs!), mobile bath/shower units, specialist surgical instruments, etc;
  • Contributions to Research Programmes intended to improve the care of burns;
  • Funding burns staff, doctors, nurses and others, to attend international meetings and other burn-related activities where other funding is not available;
  • Funding camouflage makeup training to all UK-burns units in order to provide this service to all burn survivors when requested.
